Have you ever wondered, ‘Why is my system running but not cooling the house?’ The situation is normal, and understanding the reasons behind the problem will keep you prepared when they strike suddenly.
There are different reasons why your air conditioner can’t drop the temperature in your home, from simple issues like thermostat settings to complex problems that demand replacements.
Here are the six common causes and the steps to fix them before calling an ac contractor, Phenix City.
Clogging Air Filters
The filter in your AC traps the airborne particles that enter through the ductwork and prevent further damage. When it gets clogged, the evaporator coil will freeze and loses its ability to cool down the Air.
How to Fix it – Be sure to clean the filters at least once every month to get cool Air without exciting the electric bill.
The Refrigerant is Leaking or Low
The refrigerant in AC transfers heat from the indoor space to the outdoor. When the refrigerant circulates together with the Air, your home will be filled with cool Air. If the refrigerant level is too low, the system will find it difficult to provide a cooling effect in your home.
How to fix it – The condition requires the attention of professionals. The leakage might cause a poisoning effect in the environment. At Priority, the best air conditioner contractor, Phenix City, our technicians ensure to fix your problems.
Broken or Damaged Thermostat
A thermostat detects your home’s room temperature and indicates the compressor to start or stop the cooling effect. If you have installed your system with a faulty thermostat, it will not get you cooling Air.
How to fix it – You can inspect and switch the fan setting to the auto option. Also, ensure the thermostat is set to the ‘cool ‘option and not on ‘heat’ before calling the technicians.
Dirty Coils
If your coils have a build-up of dirt on them, it will be difficult for your AC system to transfer the heat. It will lower the ability of AC to provide cool Air, and the Air will be warmer than it should be.
How to fix it – Visually inspect the outdoor coils at regular intervals for grass, dirt, and yard debris and gently clean the unit.
Malfunctioning Compressor
A compressor is one of the important parts of an AC system. When the compressor gets damaged, it will affect the whole process of the cooling cycle, and your AC will not be able to cool down your room.
How to fix it – The damaged compressor is a complicated issue, which is mostly irreparable and requires replacement.
Undersized Air Conditioner
The air conditioner is designed with size, according to the cooling ability they can provide us. If your AC is not cooling your home properly, it might be too small or too big, so it struggles to keep you cool for a long time.
How to fix it You can try to add a ductless unit or replace the system with one with a proper size that fits your needs.
